A Synthesis of Spatial Forest Assessment Studies Using Remote Sensing Data and Techniques in Pakistan

This paper synthesizes research studies on spatial forest assessment and mapping using remote sensing data techniques in Pakistan. The synthesis states that 73 peer-reviewed articles were published the past 28 years (1993–2021). Out of all studies, three conducted Azad Jammu & Kashmir, one Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, twelve Islamabad Capital Territory, thirty-one Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, six Punjab, ten Sindh, remaining seven national/regional scales. review discusses classification methods, algorithms, papers’ citations, limitations, challenges literature suggested supervised image method maximum likelihood classifier among most frequently used algorithms. also compared before after 18th constitutional amendment Very few this amendment, while a steep increase was observed afterward. accuracies papers assessed local, regional, national Pakistan evaluated only once active (i.e., SAR). Advanced satellite imageries, latest tools, need to be incorporated for facilitate stakeholders managing forests undertaking projects like UN’s REDD+ effectively.
